How to Clean a Bathroom Step-by-Step
Next to the kitchen, bathrooms are supposed to be the cleanest room in the house. It’s also the one most people don’t like to clean. So even though it’s a dirty job someone has to do it. Get your cleaning supplies together and let’s get started cleaning it. But, since bathrooms can use as many different products as the whole house uses, you should have another bin that holds just the bathroom cleaning supplies. This needs to includes soup scum and mildew remover, bathroom surface cleaner, window washing fluid, toilet bowl cleaner, dust rags, paper towels, sponges, scrub brush, and floor cleaner.
Before starting to clean the bathroom, remove any dirty clothes and towels and make sure that everything else is in its place. If you need to wash any rugs, remove these as well. Usually the hardest part of cleaning the bathroom is cleaning the shower and/or bathtub. Even with cleaning on a regular basis, there is usually some build up of soap scum and mildew. So, since cleaning the shower is going to exhaust most of my energy, I like to start there. If the soap scum buildup in the shower is really bad, allow the cleaner to soak in for awhile before you start scrubbing it. Don’t overlook cleaning the shower curtain or the shower door track. There are a lot of products to choose from that are made to clean a shower. The choice of which products you use is entirely yours to decide. After you have cleaned it, take the time to rinse the shower really well to get rid of any loose dirt and chemicals.
Clean the mirrors after the shower has been cleaned. Some people like to write things on the mirror after a hot shower has made it all foggy. They don’t realize that it leaves streaks on the mirror underneath. Now dust any shelves, moldings, door frames and baseboards.
Next, clean the sink including the facets with any product meant to clean bathroom or kitchen surfaces. Sink for our purpose also includes any counter tops and the pedestal of a pedestal sink. After you have cleaned the sink it is time to do the dirtiest job in the bathroom; the toilet. You can use a regular toilet brush and a little bit of toilet bowl cleaner or a disposable toilet bowl cleaner on the inside of the bowl. The rim of the bowl and the under part of the lid and the seat also needs to be wiped clean. The back of the toilet can be cleaned with a good surface cleaner. An area of the toilet that some people overlook is the pedestal especially towards the back near the floor which can be cleaned with a surface cleaner.
The last thing to do in the bathroom is to mop the floor and to empty the garbage. Some people like to use sponges or rags, but I feel like there are so many germs floating around the bathroom that I’d rather just use paper towels to clean with. Then I can just throw them in the garbage. Of course I throw all of the dirty paper towels in the bathroom garbage, so for me emptying the garbage is the last step in the bathroom cleaning.
